Let me grumble and mutter with you - at least someone is subbing this (big thanks to them). With very limited Japanese language skills, watching it raw would have left me missing out on a lot.

It doesn’t really matter to me on this occasion that kaiba has only 1 (well, joint) group on it, as just like Dennou Coil, it’s being subbed by someone I have lots of trust in and respect for.

For a long stretch there was only one group on top of Dennou Coil. Beginning extrapolation from a sample size of 2.

There’s nothing wrong here at all! From the screenshots in that link you provided for Kanokon, it’s a no-brainer why five groups are subbing it. There are many boys out there who watch Japanese cartoons for the nekkid cat girls and boobies. However, if only ONE group was subbing Kanokon and FIVE were subbing Kaiba, THEN something would definitely be wrong. Hell will freeze over before the day a majority of Japanese cartoon fanboys pick an intelligent/interesting show over a fanservice fanboy-pandering show. It’s sad, but true.
