It's a very unsettling show, though, and you've got the most unsettling parts ahead of you. Gainax put a lot of effort into building the show around a spiral motif and as an homage to the various mecha generations that came before. So while the first few episodes seem a little odd and listless, after episode 6 you start to see things "spiral" up and out. The really wonderful thing about it is that Gainax made sure they had somewhere to go in the last arc. They also managed their budget properly so we weren't subjected to a repeat of Evangelion's ending. Just my two cents on something to look into. If you enjoy the first 4 eps, then you'll almost certainly want to see this show through until the end. It's certainly not an easy watch, but I found it to be very well done.
