At its core, this is a comedy, but it isn't slapstick and the comedy derives from characters, not from contrivance. And it does get very serious sometimes. Still, they deliberately tried to keep the mood somewhat lighter, and as you say it is perfect as a chaser for Misaki Chronicles. It is at least as engaging, but it is nothing like as heavy.
