I’ve seen the first episode… I don’t get the love for the show at all.

You wouldn’t, Wonderduck, from just the first episode. It is deliberately cryptic — and deliberately atypical.
By the way, Don, Misaki Chronicles is the same way.

Don, the same thing happened to Ubu Roi’s friend Dr. Heinous. Late one night when Ubu Roi was visiting he showed Dr. Heinous the first DVD. of course they ended up watching the whole series in one sitting.

Duck, I actually went two years in between seeing that first episode and watching the rest of the show – and I authored the discs! ;p
It turned out to be damned good. But watch it with Misaki Chronicles! It’s not two different series, really.
