Some other pieces of the real v. denno domains puzzle:

-> In the first episoed, Yasako strikes the fence that Densuko disappeared into with a virtual display screen; her arms jar to a sudden stop with each blow. If she's miming, she's doing a, literally, bang-up job of it.

-> Densuke's doghouse sometimes has scan-lines, sometimes not. However, we do get to see its lid lift up without anyone touching it.

-> Kyoko's crayon box briefly shows scan-lines, as she removes the red crayon.

-> Yasako reports that being licked by Densuke made her feel better when she was sick.

-> When Densuke runs out of his doghouse to escape the mojos, he bumps into a pile of bedclothes. There's a brief flash of pixilation, right where he bumps into it, but it also bunches up slightly.

-> The mojos try to lasso Densuko with halos--which leads me to wonder: are we really dealing with the physical versus virtual, or with the mundane versus sacred?

There's enough contradiction here that either I have to stop caring about the boundaries between real and denno, or the story has to acknowledge and account for the ambiguity. Otherwise, it's going to be annoying--and I very, very seriously don't want that to happen. I love this show so far, and I'm going to be very disappointed if they screw it up.

(This is the first anime I've ever caught, one episode at a time, as the fansub torrents came out, and thus without the benefit of any whole-series reviews. I feel like I'm watching a new friend perform a particularly bold trapeze act without a net. Please don't screw up, please don't screw up, please don't....)
